Season 1, Episode 3

Because starting your own orchestra is completely normal…isn’t it?

by | Sep 29, 2019 | Media

One of the most impressive individuals I’ve ever at the pleasure of meeting, and I’m also very pleased to call her a mate, Bourby Webster turned her back on a burgeoning career in the corporate sector to throw caution to the wind and start her very own orchestra. That was in 2009, and in the past 10 years Bourby and her growing team have gone on to turn the Perth Symphony Orchestra into a phenomenal success. Constantly breaking the boundaries of what an orchestra is supposed to do, you might find them playing pub rock in Kwinana, Ministry of Sound classics in the middle of Kings Park, or perhaps in a theatre doing a reinterpretation of The Doors.

But it’s not only what Bourby’s been up to for the past decade that’s impressive. This girl has been smashing it out of the park since she was a kid. From starting her first ensemble in high school, to taking out a gold medal at the Royal Henley Regatta. From her time at some of the most prestigious educational institutions in the world, to working with the West Australian Institute of Sport for Manchester 2002 and Athens 2004. In 2019, she topped all of this off by becoming the West Australian of the Year in the Arts & Culture category.

This is a story you definitely don’t want to miss.

Ladies and gentlemen, Miss Bourby Webster.
